WWF CN Tower Climb 2007
On Thursday, April 26, 2007, Serenity Now is going up in the world--straight up the CN Tower, that is. It's that time of year again, and we've got a team of energetic people ready to climb the CN Tower to help the World Wildlife Fund stop global warming.
For more information on saving our climate, check out the Flash presentations available on the Save Our Climate website.
If you won't be able to do the climb yourself, please sponsor either Bob Tobin or Val Tobin, and help save our planet. Once you are on the "Sponsor a Climber" page, just type in the name of the climber in the available textbox and click on the "Search" button. From there, just follow the instructions on sponsoring a climber.
We thank you for your participation, as does all of mother earth.
Make Poverty History: The First Nations Plan for Creating Opportunity
The Assembly of First Nations has started an online petition that they would like all members of the public to sign. An inordinate amount of First Nations people are living in poverty, and we must let the govenment know that this is not acceptable. Please help by going online and signing the petition.
Some statistics from the online presentation:
- one in four First Nations children live in poverty versus one in six;
- life expectancy is 7.4 years less for First Nations men and 5.2 years less for First Nations women;
- overcrowding in First Nations homes is almost double;
- mold contaminates almost half of homes;
- socioeconomic conditions has been compared to developing countries with health status well below the national average. First Nations people simply cannot afford the means to good health.
Big Bike Ride for Heart and Stroke
On Saturday, April 29th, Bob and Val rode the Big Bike for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Our team, which included Mayor Tim Jones and representatives of Newmarket-Aurora MP Belinda Stronach, raised over $2,000.
A BIG thank you to everyone who sponsored us!
The Heart and Stroke Foundation is a charity near and dear to our own hearts (pun intended), as both Bob and Val have lost their fathers to heart failure.
We believe that good nutrition and cleansing go a long way to helping people live long and healthy lives, and wish that Antal Cseh and Tom Tobin could have lived long enough to benefit from our Isagenix products. We miss you, Dads!
WWF - Canada - CN Tower Climb
We went straight to the top of the CN Tower to do our part in the war against global warming.
Those of you who know me (Val) might well wonder why I'd be wanting to stamp out something that would help me avoid being cold. Please go to the WWF's page on Climate Change to find out.
Our teams, Sanity Later and Sanity Later2, hit the stairs on April 27th, 2006. Thank you to everyone who sponsored us. The planet and the polar bears also thank you for your support. Our two teams raised over $1,000.
A special thank you goes to the employees and management of Quebecor World Aurora, who were a big part of our success.
There were 1,776 steps (144 flights of stairs). Val's time was 34:57. Bob's time was 25:58. Our daughter, Jenn, did it in 30:55.
Congratulations to everyone who did the climb. It was a real challenge, but also a real triumph when you made it to the top.
See you there next year.
